How RTP changes when doubling is enabled

RTP (Return to Player) is a key indicator in slots that reflects the average percentage of bets returned to players. In classic and modern machines with the Gamble function (doubling the winnings), the question arises: does the RTP change if the player regularly uses this mechanics. The answer depends on how the provider implemented the risk game.

1. Theoretical basis

The RTP of the main slot is calculated separately from the Gamble function. It takes into account the probability of symbols, bonuses and average payments.
The RTP Gamble is usually fixed at 100% or slightly less if restrictions are in place. In the standard red/black scheme, the success rate is 50%, and the win doubles the bet. That is, mathematically, the expectation is zero (the player is not in plus, but not in minus).

2. How providers specify RTP

Novomatic, Play'n GO, Amatic: RTP slots and RTP Gamble are specified separately.
EGT: sometimes the Gamble function is not included in the calculation of total RTP.
Modern providers (NetEnt, Pragmatic Play): Gamble is absent so as not to confuse players when certifying.

3. Real impact on RTP for player

If RTP Gamble = 100%, then the use of the function does not reduce or increase the overall return. The player only increases the variance, making the result less stable.
If the provider reduces the probability of winning (for example, 49.5% instead of 50%), the real RTP function will be <100%, and the total indicator is reduced.
With successive doubles, RTP does not change, but the risk of losing a win increases dramatically.

4. Examples of calculations

Book of Ra (Novomatic): RTP of the main slot ~ 95.1%. RTP Gamble = 100%. The use of a risk game does not affect the mathematical return, but increases volatility.
Sizzling Hot (Novomatic): the same scheme - the RTP slot is fixed, and doubling is mathematically neutral.
Play'n GO (Book of Dead): RTP slot 96.21%, Gamble implemented in red/black and suit. On color RTP = 100%, on suit (x4) also 100% is saved, but the chance of winning is lower (25%).

5. Why players feel like RTP is changing

Psychology. A series of unsuccessful doubles is perceived as "trimming" RTP.
Incorrect calculation. Players mix main slot RTP and risk games, although these are two different processes.
Casino limits. Some operators limit the maximum amounts for Gamble, which gives the impression of understating the return.

6. Result

The win doubling function does not change the RTP of the base game if implemented according to the standard 50/50 scheme. It only increases the risk and variance: the player either sharply increases the payment, or loses it completely. Real RTP changes are only possible if the provider specifically reduces the likelihood of successful selection.
